Because Jesus Is Better

“if God created this universe, that means He created both the good and the bad in this world. why must He create the bad as well?”
oh how many times have i heard the above question being questioned by many people. a lot. i, myself, cannot answer it well enough until this morning. i have been reading a book called “Mere Christianity” by CS Lewis. and i must say as difficult as this book is, i still manage to grasp a little out of it, and as little as you may expect, is still much for me. i am still in Book II of IV though, where he talks about ‘What Christians Believe’.
here, let me quote a paragraph from his book:
“God created things which had free will. That means creatures, which can go either wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature, which was free but had no possibility of going wrong; I cannot. If a thing is free to be good, it is also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible. Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. A world of automata – of creatures that worked like machines – would hardly be worth creating. The happiness which God designs for His higher creatures is the happiness of being freely, voluntarily united to Him and to each other in an ecstasy of love and delight compared with which the most rapturous love between a man and a woman on this earth is mere milk and water. And for that, they must be free.”
“Of course God knew what would happen if they used their freedom the wrong way: apparently, He though it worth the risk.”
beautiful, isn’t it? so now you know why there’s both good and bad in this world. free will, free will that is given to us so we are able to choose our own path in life. He gave us the power to decide our path: righteousness or unrighteousness. i know He expected us to chose Him. some met His expectations, but some didn’t. or even worse,  some trash and curse Him. which one are you?
then i realized, God is not so good in ‘advertising’ His way of righteousness. He asked people to carry the cross, pay the price, and then there are lots of laws you have to obey and blablabla. but if you look closer, God is good. He is better than any other offers in this world. He Himself is enough for us. He is a God who provides, who comforts, who will never leave us, nor forsake us. He loves us. He even promised the people who chose the path of righteousness something beyond our imaginations. “no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)
in the contrary, Satan is talented in promoting, luring people, giving people temptations, and those kind of stuffs. for example when you’re sitting in a classroom doing a test, and the teacher is behind the table, half asleep and you know you are able to take a peek on your neighbor’s paper. you hear a whisper in your ear telling you, “go for it, do you want to fail and let your parents down?”, now that is Satan’s work. but at the same time, in your heart, someone speaks to you, giving you the feeling of guilt if you turn your head and take a look, that’s the conscience given by the Holy Spirit. it’s perfect if you immediately ignore the whisper of Satan and continue giving your best shot on the test honestly. but if you give in to the temptation, you give in to your human desire, you’re one step closer to unrighteousness, and one step away from righteousness. so that’s how it works. Jesus: takes more effort and work, but it will be perfect in the end. Satan: comfort zone, fulfills all your flesh desire, but destroys you. as what my youth pastor often asks: which would you prefer, a dog poo tastes like a chocolate, or a chocolate tastes like a dog poo? it’s your choice, be wise 🙂
now, what if you are on the path of unrighteousness and at a point you realized you are not supposed to be there, and you want to turn away? the answer is really simple: MAKE A U-TURN! it’s never too late to make one. no matter how many sins you commit, how bad your sins are, how ashamed you are at yourself, how destroyed you are, God is always there waiting for you with His open arm. and when He sees you walking towards Him, He is running towards you!
right now if you’re feeling that you have God on your backside and you can’t see clearly what’s in front of you, make a U-Turn! turn away from sins, leave them all behind. BUT for the right motive, not because you are afraid of going to hell, but because of one, and just one: Jesus is better. He always is, and He always will.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

have a blessed weekend everyone!
