33.7% salinity, 8.6 times saltier than the ocean. The Dead Sea, in the border of Jordan to the east and Israel and the West Bank to the west, is indeed one of the saltiest bodies in the world. It is very rich in minerals that it supports no life. The reason is that the high salt content causes osmosis to occur on a HUGE scale. The Dead Sea will literally draws water out of the fish, or aquatic plants, hence, killing them.
Sometimes, humans act this way. Like the Dead Sea, you may be rich in wealth, possessions, knowledge, etc., but what’s next? Are you going to keepit all to yourself? Or are you willing to GIVE BACK to the community around you? Like the Dead Sea, you draw something out of others meaning you receive things from them and what’s next? Are you going to keep it all to yourself? Or are you willing to GIVE BACK to the community around you?
Some people may think that to receive is more satisfying than to give. But trust me, it’s the other way around! Well, it’s hard to deny that it feels goooddddd to receive something from someone, even if that something is not on your wish list! BUT that will only give you temporary happiness. If you want GREATER JOY, learn to give. Give to those who need, it doesn’t have to be your money; it can be your time, your smile, your effort, anything. The smile on their faces, the sound of their laughter, the appreciation they give. Priceless. (“Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.” Proverbs 3:27 (NLT))
However, sometimes people give for the wrong obscured motivations. I’m sure most of us have heard of the famous adage “you reap what you sow.” Lots of people give and expect something in return. Reaping is not supposed to be the reason why you give. Give genuinely. Then, you’ll have that inexpressible joy!AND ALSO, giving should be genuinely from the bottom of your heart, not for gaining recognition from others. Are you giving for God’s praise or man’s? (“But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:3-4)
Don’t be like the Dead Sea. Rich, but abandoned. Draws water out of the fish, but does not give life. So, what are you waiting for? Give. Give genuinely from the bottom of your heart. And you can thank me later 😉 (“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35 (NIV))
“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by ‘I was hungry and you gave me to eat, I was naked and you clothed me, I was homeless and you took me in.’ Hungry not only for bread — but hungry for love. Naked not only for clothing — but naked for human dignity and respect. Homeless not only for want of a room of bricks — but homeless because of rejection.” ~ Mother Teresa
