God is Unfair (?)

“God, You are so unfair!” You hear it all the time.
When you have to train very hard because you are not good enough to make it to the school’s soccer team, you said, “God, You are so unfair!”
When you have to eat the same meal for days because you do not have enough money to buy other food, you said, “God, You are so unfair!”
When you have to take the bus to school when everyone else has their own cars, you said, “God, You are so unfair!”
When you are sweating inside your house because you cannot afford any air conditioner, you said, “God, You are so unfair!”
But, have you taken the time to see it from a different perspective?
When you have to train very hard because you are not good enough to make it to the school’s soccer team, say, “God, You are so unfair! There are people out there with no feet who cannot even walk.
When you have to eat the same meal for days because you do not have enough money to buy other food, say, “God, You are so unfair! A lot of people are starving because they have not eaten in 3 days.
When you have to take the bus to school when everyone else has their own cars, say, “God, You are so unfair! There are many children who cannot afford to have a proper education.
When you are sweating inside your house because you cannot afford any air conditioner, you said, “God, You are so unfair! What happen to all the homeless people on the streets?
Yes, God is unfair. That is true. I guess the most relevant example here is God Himself. God is unfair to send His one and only begotten Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. An innocent Man carrying the cross and crucified in place of sinners. An innocent Man despised and rejected by mankind. An innocent Man had His body scourged for our transgressions. An innocent Man had His feet nailed to the cross for every time we stepped on others. An innocent Man had His wrists pierced for every sin we commit. An innocent Man had His head crowned with thorns for every evil thought that came up in our minds.
If God is fair, why are we even still here? Who are we to deserve this life? If God is fair, aren’t we sinners supposed to be up on that cross carrying our own sin? But no, God is not fair. Instead, He gave His Son to die for our sin. Instead, He forgives us. Instead, He loves us still.
The next time we think God is unfair, yes, convince yourself that God is unfair because He really is. Be grateful. I, myself, am still learning how to be grateful with everything I have right now. I can’t emphasize this anymore, but just be grateful. Be thankful for all the things you have, because there is always someone who has less than you, whatever it is.

Be grateful and keep smiling,
Kimberly Subianto
