A Life Without Pain

Source: YouTube
Imagine for a moment a life without pain. Won’t it be amazing? No pain, no suffering, no heartbreaks. When you accidentally cut yourself with a knife, you won’t feel any pain. When you get tackled in a football match and fall on your head, you won’t feel any pain. When someone punches you in the face, you won’t feel any pain. When someone says hurtful words that cut deep in your heart, you won’t feel any pain. Imagine. Amazing life?
No. Not really. When you accidentally cut yourself with a knife, you still bleed. When you get tackled in a football match and fall on your head, you may still damage your brain. When someone punches you in the face, you still have bruises everywhere. When someone says hurtful words that cut deep in your heart, you still feel underestimated and mocked. It’s not that great after all. Worse even.
Pain. Everyone hates it, at least for me. Pain makes you suffer; it cuts deep to your inner being and just ruins the moment. Pain is something people want to avoid. Pain is something people try to alleviate. Pain is something that haunts us in whatever we do; it will come whenever we mess up in doing things. And yet, pain is something that keeps you safe. Pain is something that reminds you not to make the same mistake twice. Pain is something that motivates you to get things right. Pain is something that helps you grow and improve. Pain is important after all.
Pain keeps you safe. A life without pain is like when you bleed continuously without knowing that something is wrong with you. You kept smiling and laughing as if life is perfect until one day you find out you are running out of blood, and you cannot go on. Pain points out that there is something wrong with you; there is a need of healing before it will go away.
Pain reminds you not to make the same mistake twice. A life without pain is like when you mess things up real bad without knowing that you mess up. This will not decrease the likelihood that you will do it again. Pain lets you know that you screw up and it will hurt. Pain serves as the positive punishment (YES! I learned this in PSYCH 101 yay!). People always try to avoid pain and so, they will strive to not feel the same pain again.
Pain motivates you to get things right. A life without pain is like when you walk on the edges of a steep cliff without knowing that when you accidentally slip, you may actually die. When you know that falling off the cliff will be painful, you will be more cautious, and you will focus on succeeding. Knowing about the pain lets you know about the risks. Most people will perform better when they know that if they mess up, they will bear the pain.
Pain is inevitable. I know all of us have our own pain in life. You’ve been hurt. I’ve been hurt. But we can always choose how we respond to it; we either let it destroy us, or let it help us grow. You might say, yeah the pain goes away, the wounds heal, but I can still see all the scars. They are scars that won’t go away. They are scars that will keep on reminding you of the wound and the pain you had. Everyday. The good news is, we have a Healer. A Healer that will not only heal the wounds, but the scars too. A Healer that is greater than any of your pain. A Healer that has bore the pain that everyone in this world should bear. A Healer that loves us so much that He is willing to suffer for us. A Healer, whose name is no longer uncommon to the ears, Jesus. And guys, when the scars go away, all the pain will just be memories. They will be a part of your past. You will still remember it, but in a different way. You will look back and see that you have been through it all, and you survive. You will look back and see that people come and go, they love and betray, they help and destroy. Things are not constant in this world. They are always changing. And when you look back to see all of that, you will realize that in this changing world, you can only cling to the unchangeableOne. It is He.
If you are in pain right now, hold on. Don’t give up, because pain keeps you safe. Don’t give up, because then, you will not make the same mistake again. Don’t give up, be motivated to get things right instead. Don’t give up, because you are growing and improving. Pain, everyone hates it. But in fact, it is a blessing in disguise.
Grateful for pain,
